A Book of Patterns

Design, Illustration
My Moleskine book has served me well. Over the past few months, I've traveled with this book on a daily basis. These hand illustrated patterns are a result of things that have inspired me along the way.

  • Chicago Playing Cards
As a member of the Double Blind Collective, we redesigned a deck of playing cards to focus various Chicago landmarks, personalities and historical events. The cards focus on the unique aspects of our city rather than just the John Hancock or Sears Tower (it will always be the Sears Tower in my eyes).

*The Jordan cards was a collaboration between J.Stephen Lee and myself.

This was a book jacket design for Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. The jacket folds out into a Beat timeline that follows Kerouac’s epic journey.

On the backside is a poster for Kerouac that talks about his life and career as an author.

  • Inspiration for Creation
Creativity goes far beyond an LCD screen. Computers allow you the flexibility to undo and redo steps at a rapid pace. In doing so, you begin to execute concepts without thoroughly developing your idea.

Developing an idea without the use of a computer forces you to think before you do. This creative “exercise” allows me to explore elements outside of the digital world.
